Sometimes after a hard days work, you just want to snuggle up on the sofa with a glass of wine and binge watch some bad TV but its almost possible to relax in room that feels bare or harsh. But all is not lost, below i'm going to give you a few tips that will help you transform any room in a cosy, relaxing space and even better.... you can do it without spending a fortune.

Let's dive in.

1. Blankets and Pillows

Using pillow and blankets helps to soften the feeling of the room.

Time to create a blanket and pillow fort!

Ok, not really, but adding some throw blankets and extra pillows is a quick and easy way to make your living room feel a little bit more cosy. Its also a perfect way to bring some warmth into your room by using some subtle yet brighter coloured pillows.

2. Warm Lighting

Using warm light bulbs is a quick and easy way to make your room feel more cozy.

Using light bulbs with a warm easy light is another quick way to change the mood of a room. Just swap out the bright white lights for something with a slightly more yellowish hue and watch living room your change from feeling like you're in the waiting room at the dentist to feeling like you're in a spacious cottage!

3. Candles

Candles are a quick and easy to to create a much more cozy atmosphere.

Since we're on the topic of lighting, adding candles is another great way to add some warmth, both literally and figuratively, to your living room. Try to buy 'big' candles if possible but these can be expensive so buy some smaller candles and then get some candle holders to accompany them. Not only does this help to accessorise the room but its a quick way to bring an injection of colour or elegance.

4. Furniture Grouping

This room uses two ottomans to face and group it furniture around.

If you have a big living room its often hard to create that cozy feeling as there is often a lot of space between pieces of furniture. People often try to centre all their furniture around one coffee table or angle all their furniture at the TV

Placing your furniture into smaller groups with a coffee table in the centre of each group is a great way to create the feeling of intimacy and cosiness in a big place.

5. Rugs

Using a rug in your living room is a great way to reduce the feeling of 'space' and bring your furniture 'closer'.

In less cozy spaces there is often a large amount of floor space, using a rug or rugs will help reduce the empty floor space and make everything in the room feel a little closer together.

6. Wall Colour

Using a 'warmer' coloured wall paint like a beige, seen above, can really help to increase the cozy feeling of your room, even if there is a lot a natural light coming in.

Using warm colours for your walls is one fo the best ways to create that snuggly feeling we're after. This doesn't mean you have to go with yellow or orange just avoid using bright white.

7. Curtains

Curtains are a great to reduce the empty 'space' in your living room.

This is similar to the using rugs, curtain or drapes are a great way to reduce the amount of open 'space there is your living room. The best curtains for reducing space are thick and heavy. I said before about adding some warmth to your room using subtle yet brighter pillows and throw blankets but for curtains its best to go darker, doesn't have to be black but thick darker coloured curtains helps to make the boundaries of your room feel closer.

Now you can cozy up!

There you have it, 7 tips to create a cosy living room! Like with anything, these things do cost money but if you are willing to shop around and paint a few walls yourself, these tips will have your living room feeling cozy in no time and without breaking the bank.
